Poker pro Cornel Andrew Cimpan won his 2nd World Poker title of the year on November 11th, 2009, taking down the 2009 world poker tour World Poker Finals. Cimpan outwitted 352 players and a final table that included well-known poker pros Eric Froelich, Lee Markholt and Matt Stout to take home the title at the Foxwoods Resort Casino for $910,058.

Last February, Cimpan won his very first World Poker Tour title at the Los Angeles Poker Classic for $1.68 million. Cimpan had no problem analyzing his own game after the heads-up showdown with Soheil Shamseddin concluded-especially after entering the heads-up showdown with a four-one chip disadvantage.

Cimpan said that Shamseddin was a very tough opponent but he was just a little better. Despite his 2nd place finish, Shamseddin further cemented his position as one of the most consistent poker players in the circuit. He won a total of $463,332 for finishing in 2nd place. Matt Stout, who was the overall chip leader for much of the final two days, appeared destined to take home the title before getting sucked out by Soheil Shamseddin for most of his chips.

Stout possessed a flush to the trip kings of Shamseddin but the river filled up the boat of Shamseddin. Stout was left with only a minimum amount of chips and despite trying to make a comeback, eventually finished in 3rd place for $265,710. Two-time world series of poker bracelet winner Eric Froelich came in 4th place, busting in a familiar race situation while Curt Kohlberg busted out in 5th place.

One of the most well-known players at the final table was the first one to go home. In just the second card hand of the day, short stack Lee Markholt pushed all-in with his A (heart) and K (spade) during the pre-flop and Stout called with his A(spade) and 6 (spade).

Three spades were place on the board and that was more than enough to send Markholt home. The next World Poker Tour tournament is the Doyle Brunson Five Diamond World Poker Classic that will take place on December 14th, 2009-December 19th, 2009 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
